Greenplum and Pentaho Announce Technology Partnership

Open Source Leaders Collaborate to Deliver Enterprise-Class Business Intelligence Solutions

ORLANDO, FL--(Marketwire - September 18, 2007) - Greenplum, the leader in high-performance database software for business intelligence (BI) and Pentaho Corp., creator of the world's most popular open source BI suite, today announced a technology partnership that includes mutual technology certification as well as joint sales and marketing activity. The partnership between the two companies addresses the growing need for enterprise-class BI solutions delivered using open source software.

Mutual technology certification addresses the increasing market demand for enterprise-class BI solutions at a lower total cost of ownership (TCO), made possible through commercial open source. Research from numerous sources has demonstrated a wide range of benefits associated with the use of open source software, from lower acquisition and maintenance costs, to reduced vendor lock-in and greater flexibility for IT organizations.

"End-user organizations are definitely exploring alternative approaches to BI driven by a desire for lower costs and greater flexibility," said Mark Madsen, CEO of Third Nature and Instructor for The Data Warehousing Institute. "Certification agreements like this demonstrate that the emerging vendors in the BI market are aware of the needs of IT when supporting mission-critical applications."

The partnership and formal certification between Greenplum and Pentaho sends a clear message to joint customers and prospects that the companies are committed to reliable interoperability and mutual customer success. Together, the technologies represent a high-performance, scalable solution for reporting, analysis, dashboards and data integration. Pentaho's solutions also integrate with the Sun Data Warehouse Appliance, an integrated appliance that combines Greenplum Database with Sun's X4500 servers. Joint certification allows customers to benefit from the breadth of Pentaho's BI suite and the performance and scalability of Greenplum software and Sun hardware, all at a low total cost of ownership (TCO) that is consistent with open source software and general-purpose systems.
