Grey Cup 2010 to Include Education Programs for Alberta Students

In School Grey Cup Education Program

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Nov. 19, 2010) - The Grey Cup Festival 2010 Committee is pleased to unveil the first ever in-school education program focusing on the unique game of football in Canada.

6,000 Alberta grade 4 to 6 classrooms with over 125,000 students are receiving Grey Cup Education kits this week. These kits include an interactive DVD, teachers' guides and prizes for the students.

The instructional DVDs will have 5 different learning topics and run 5 to 7 minutes each. The 5 topics will cover the following:

  • CFL and Grey Cup History
  • CFL Rules and the Unique Game in Canada
  • The Current CFL Teams Across Canada
  • The Impact on Canadian Nationalism and Community
  • 2010 Season Stats and Grey Cup Build Up

The program has been designed to complement the learning objectives of grades 4 to 6. Teachers will present the program the week of November 22nd to 26th, prior to the Grey Cup on Sunday November 28th. No football experience or background is necessary to present the program.

The videos feature 3 grade 5 students as hosts in a newsroom format, and Little Earl, a cartoon character, providing students with a fun and informative overview of Canadian Football League and the Grey Cup Festival.

EPCOR Huddle Dome School Field Trips

From Wednesday, November 24 to Friday November 26, over 2,000 grade 4 to 6 Edmonton area students will visit the EPCOR Huddle Dome on school field trips. Activities include:

  • Overview of the "This Is Our League" education program
  • Football themed interactive games
  • CFL Experience – an overview of Canadian Football
  • Q & A with CFL Alumni and Miss Canada
  • Tours of the on-site set for live TSN broadcasts

This field trip and bus transportation is free of charge to participating schools.
