Grey Cup advice from MADD: ‘Party and plan ahead to get home'

When you plan your Grey Cup party for the weekend, be sure to plan your transportation home.

Attention: City Editor, Lifestyle Editor, News Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 21, 2007) - When you plan your Grey Cup party for the weekend, be sure to plan your transportation home. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD Canada) wants all Cup revelers who are drinking to take public transit, call a taxi, get a ride from a friend or stay over with the host until they are have sobered up.

Carolyn Swinson, MADD Canada's National Chairperson and MADD Toronto Chapter member, says," Let's all celebrate the Grey Cup weekend, and let's all ensure we plan ahead so that there is no impaired driving. Party and then get safely home by bus, cab or a friend's vehicle. Stay over if you need to. Just don't you drink and drive."

"If you find yourself impaired at the end of the night and have not planned for a drive home," suggests Mrs. Swinson, "call #TAXI on your mobile phone and take a taxi safely home."

By calling #TAXI (#8-2-9-4) on any cellphone -- in Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina or anywhere in Canada -- a person can get the first available taxi.

Mrs. Swinson adds, "There is no excuse to drive impaired, especially when anywhere, anytime, you can hail a taxi by simply calling #TAXI."

Impaired driving remains Canada's number one criminal cause of death. On average, each and every day, 4 Canadians are killed and another 187 Canadians are injured in alcohol and drug-related crashes. More than 70,000 Canadian men, women and children are killed or serious injured in impaired driving crashes annually. MADD Canada's volunteers and supporters are intent on altering these unacceptable statistics.

MADD Canada's mission is to stop impaired driving and to support the victims of this violent crime. For more information on MADD Canada, visit www.madd.ca
