Gridpoint Systems Launches Connection Oriented Carrier Ethernet Solutions with Industry First Ethernet SLA Protection

Multi-vendor service management, PBB-TE ready edge and aggregation portfolio will accelerate Ethernet planning, provisioning and protection for partners and service providers

OTTAWA, CANADA--(CCNMatthews - March 29, 2007) - Gridpoint Systems today announced it will leverage its strengths in Carrier Ethernet, service management and traffic management to launch its Connection Oriented Carrier Ethernet (COCE) solutions. These offerings will enable partners and service providers to accelerate the planning, provisioning and protection of Ethernet service and transport networks and to offer service level agreements (SLAs) not previously possible. The COCE solutions will deliver Carrier Ethernet's promise of scalability, reliability, quality of service (QoS) and service management through a simplified, cost effective and deterministic implementation. Gridpoint Systems' initial solution is being demonstrated at CTIA Wireless 2007 and is in customer trials.

The products being demonstrated include the Value Management Suite (VMS™), a series of multi-vendor Ethernet service management applications and the Gridpoint Systems' 2300, the first in a series of edge and aggregation devices. Gridpoint Systems' technology will also be offered in hardware and software blades to rapidly provide partners additional product differentiation.

Gridpoint Systems' COCE solutions deliver Ethernet networks SONET/SDH-like control by incorporating deterministic routing, end-to-end traffic engineering and management plus advanced OAM (operations, administration and maintenance) functions. The offerings are based on existing standards and include a field software upgrade path to emerging standards such as Provider Backbone Bridging with Traffic Engineering (PBB-TE) and T-MPLS.

"Enabling service providers to offer SLAs with guaranteed end-to-end QoS will help remove one of the obstacles to customer migration from legacy services to Ethernet," said Erin Dunne, director of research with Vertical System Group. "Combining this with an architecture that allows carriers to manage Ethernet in line with current practices will help deliver the promise of Carrier Ethernet."

The VMS multi-vendor service management suite dramatically decreases provisioning time and minimizes operator error, addressing the two major issues with current implementations. This solution was previewed at WCA 2007 earlier this year in an integrated demonstration with DragonWave, a leading global supplier of next generation wireless networks. The CTIA showcase builds on this success, by demonstrating rapid service provisioning across two additional vendors' equipment further expanding the portfolio of manufacturers supported by the VMS.

The Gridpoint Systems' 2300 is tailored for the wireless backhaul and business services markets enabling standardized native Ethernet and TDM service delivery. It incorporates Ethernet SLA Protection™ (ESP), a feature which enables carriers for the first time to offer guaranteed QoS during "soft" failures due to network congestion or radio QAM reduction and to minimize downtime in the event of a hard failure. This protection is delivered on a per service basis as opposed to being limited to traditional port-based mechanisms.

"Growing interest in PBB-TE validates the architectural decisions Gridpoint Systems made from day one," said Jim Arseneault, president and chief executive officer of Gridpoint Systems. "Our value added service and traffic management, combined with our ability to support today's and emerging standards for connection oriented Ethernet is unmatched in the industry. Simply put, Gridpoint is focused on increasing service provider profitability by dramatically reducing the complexity (OPEX) and optimizing the effective capacity (CAPEX) of next generation Ethernet networks."

Visitors are welcome to view a live demonstration of Gridpoint Systems' portfolio at booth 5383 at CTIA Wireless 2007 which is being held in Orlando, Florida from March 27-29th, 2007.
