Gridstore Helps Porterville Unified School District Drive Campus Wide Infrastructure Upgrade

Consolidation Reduced Costs and Sets Groundwork for 5x Increase in Growth

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwired - April 14, 2015) - Gridstore®, the leader in hyper-converged all flash infrastructure for the Microsoft Cloud-Inspired Data Center today announced that the Porterville Unified School District, one of the largest school districts in the Central Valley of California, has implemented Gridstore's 36TB of Hybrid Storage Nodes for their district wide data center consolidation, resulting in reduced administrative costs, higher performance and setting the stage for future growth.

Porterville was faced with the challenges and costs associated with running 24 individual data centers which was becoming prohibitive. The School District had decided to consolidate its IT support into one data center, designed to support all campuses from a central location. Consolidation, it was determined, would make management far easier as well as generate tremendous cost savings. This consolidation also would address the future need to implement an effective back-up and recovery solution off-site from the main campus data center. Replacing their previous deployment of Dell EqualLogic, this new primary data center is running SQL server, client-managed servers, and the wireless controller server.

When asked, Joshua Tarrats, Network Specialist at Porterville Unified School District, stated: "The growth of data is one of the biggest challenges we faced. We had some 12TB to migrate, but that figure is expected to leap to over 60TB. But data was not our only challenge. Our current servers were simply not meeting our needs. Some were virtualized, others not, some data centers based on Windows 2008, some already migrated to Windows Server 2012 R2, others not, and all the while we were hemorrhaging money running 24 separate data centers and no effective disaster recovery in place.

With the deployment of Gridstore, Porterville has now virtualized 25 physical servers based on Hyper-V running SQL Server, Client Management Server and Wireless Controller Server, which is working effectively for the first time.

Tarrats continued, "What lay at the heart of our decision to review -- and then install Gridstore systems -- was that it was purpose built for Hyper-V and Windows Servers.

We wanted something that was way faster than our previous systems and with Gridstore we have that. It enabled us to virtualize a couple of hugely challenging servers -- SQL and wireless -- and in the process helped to alleviate our storage problem dramatically."

"Gridstore has helped us deliver a true enterprise-wide storage solution across the entire Campus. It is a huge step in the right direction towards a truly virtual environment," added Joshua. "We have seen a dramatic improvement in performance across the Campus. It has helped us accelerate our one-to-one device strategy for students. The new solution has enabled the addition of 6,000 devices -- including tablets, netbooks and students' own devices."

Porterville reported that Gridstore was not only quick and easy to install, any issues were dealt with by support within hours as opposed to days.

"We're seeing tremendous demand from school districts looking to upgrade their infrastructure," said Victoria Grey, CMO, Gridstore. "Gridstore is proud to support their initiatives to modernize datacenters with simple, fast, and cost-effective solutions."
