Leading consultancy in workplace wellness walks its own talk Attention: Assignment Editor, Business/Financial Editor, City Editor, Health/Medical Editor, Lifestyle Editor WHITBY, ONTARIO --(CCNMatthews - Sept. 19, 2005) - Buffett Taylor & Associates, a leading consultancy in workplace wellness, employee benefits, and human resource solutions practices what it preaches and today has been recognized by the National Quality Institute (NQI) as the first ever recipient of the prestigious Gold Award of Excellence Small Business - Healthy Workplace.
Developed in partnership with Health Canada in 1998, the NQI Healthy Workplace Award recognizes employers who promote, encourage, support and offer exemplary health-related policies and programs in the workplace. Buffett Taylor was recognized for its demonstrated commitment to healthy workplace programs, principals and practices.
"Congratulations to Buffett Taylor & Associates. We commend you for meeting the rigour of the criteria which demonstrates you are one of Canada's leading Healthy Workplace organizations," says Allan Ebedes, President and CEO, CAE & NQI.
"As a leading consultancy in workplace wellness, Buffett Taylor clearly walks its own talk by incorporating a best-of-class wellness program in its own workplace and sets a strong example for other employers to follow," adds Ebedes.
"We are delighted to receive this honour because the criteria's extensive and comprehensive approach exemplifies everything we stand for and encourage with our clients and within our own workplace," says Ed Buffett, President and Founder of Buffett Taylor & Associates.

The Canadian Healthy Workplace Criteria addresses a broad-based approach to health and wellness in the workplace. The criteria bring together environmental, physical, mental, safety and social issues into a strategic model that helps organizations set goals and manage their wellness programs.

The Buffett Taylor healthy workplace approach program is comprehensive, multi-faceted and implemented in several phases. See media kit backgrounder for more detail.
"We have always advocated a comprehensive approach to a healthy workplace. Ad hoc initiatives such as lunch and learns and one-off initiatives are nice to have but don't really impact significant change," says Buffett. "If a program is to have any true impact it must be developed with more strategic planning, take a longer-term and more comprehensive approach and include a more rigorous evaluation component."
Previous years' recipients of the Healthy Workplace Award includes organizations such as: DaimlerChrysler Canada and the Canadian Auto Workers, American Express, Dofasco, Delta Hotels - and others. See www.nqi.ca for a complete list.

Healthy Workplaces in Slim Company (Survey):
While NQI recognizes those leading organizations who have committed to a high standard in workplace wellness programs, the majority of Canadian employers are lagging in this regard.

Despite a growing concern over employee stress, absenteeism and the impact on productivity, only about 20 per cent of Canadian employers offer comprehensive programs - according to the most recent findings of the tri-annual Buffett Taylor National Wellness Survey (2003).

Return-on-Investment of Wellness at Work: "There is a business case for employers to consider. Workplaces offering comprehensive wellness programs will be more competitive, with increased productivity, decreased absenteeism, improved morale, lower benefit costs and better employee retention," says Buffett.

Buffett also adds that there have been cases confirming that for every dollar invested in an effective worksite wellness program, employers can realize a return of more than four dollars.
