Greater Toronto Area REALTORS® have brightened the lives of many local residents by donating more than $178,000 to 35 shelter-related organizations throughout the city.

The organizations were celebrated at the Toronto Real Estate Board's (TREB) annual Gathering for Giving reception, which took place November 29th, a date that also marked the association's 90th anniversary.

For a number of years Greater Toronto REALTORS® have committed to supporting the REALTORS® Care Foundation, which makes annual grants on behalf of REALTORS® to shelter-based organizations throughout the province.

This year, their commitment resulted in a donation of more than $357,000 to the Foundation, $178,000 of which was channeled directly into GTA communities.

"As REALTORS® we recognize the immeasurable importance of housing in everyone's lives," said Toronto Real Estate Board President Bill Johnston. "We're proud to support so many shelter-based charities' exemplary efforts to improve the equality of life in Greater Toronto Area communities."

On behalf of its Members TREB contributes to a number of other causes throughout the year as well. For example, TREB recently committed to sponsoring one of 29 Habitat for Humanity townhomes being constructed at Morningside Avenue and Kingston Road. It marks the fourth title sponsorship of seven builds to which TREB has contributed in recent years.

In conjunction with the Toronto District School Board Greater Toronto REALTORS® provide nutritious breakfasts and snacks to 28,000 children in 16 different schools each month.

An annual scholarship program is also among the association's numerous charitable initiatives.

"Ninety years ago a group of real estate practitioners came together to establish standards in our profession," said Mr. Johnston. "Today, we regard it as our responsibility to expand on their spirit of cooperation by working together to build strong communities in our great city."

Greater Toronto REALTORS® are passionate about their work. They adhere to a strict Code of Ethics and share a state-of-the-art Multiple Listing Service.
