GuestLogix Enables Airlines to Quickly and Securely Transact Sales In-Flight With New Contactless Payment Technology

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 23, 2009) - GuestLogix User Group Conference Toronto 2009 - GuestLogix Inc., (TSX VENTURE:GXI), the world's leading provider of onboard retail solutions to the airline industry, today unveiled its support for contactless payment technology with its market leading point-of-service (POS) handhelds and retail transaction platform at its annual user group conference being held this week in Toronto.

The Company will discuss its product plans during its Onboard Payment Methods panel which featured speakers from Visa, ICG, American Airlines, United Air Lines, Row 44, Anderson Zaks, and Southwest Airlines. ITWell, the Company's hardware manufacturing arm in Korea, is also on hand with a number of prototype demonstrations in the contactless exhibit.

GuestLogix is working with Visa and other payment associations to certify its new devices with the aim to be first to market with universal onboard POS handhelds that support Visa payWave, MasterCard PayPass, American Express ExpressPay and Discover Network Zip, the main contactless standards available today. The Company's new devices will be available in early 2010.

GuestLogix new retail solution will also support Near Field Communications (NFC) programs residing on passengers' mobile phones so that its onboard transaction platform can accept mobile phone payments.

The Company's move to contactless and near field communications technologies opens the door to more secure and much faster payments onboard. Flight attendants will be able to process sales in less time versus traditional handling while airlines will be able to greatly reduce credit card related fraud.

"Our new support for third generation payment technologies effectively changes the playing field for onboard retailing and merchandising," said Tom Douramakos, President and CEO at GuestLogix. "Carriers can now accomplish more sales in less time during flight without incurring additional risk. Contactless usage is becoming very popular in traditional retail markets. Now airlines can easily capitalize on this payment trend in the air."

Given that airlines have a very limited sales window, increasing transaction throughput is critical to increasing in-flight sales. GuestLogix estimates that enabling airline operators to become contactless merchants would result in a reduction in average processing time of more than 50 per cent. This would result in onboard sales processing capacity to increase by nearly three-fold.

"We are pleased to be working with an industry leader like GuestLogix to expand the use of new payment technology in the transportation sector," said Des F. Docherty, Vice President Visa USA Product Development. "Visa payWave benefits have been clearly demonstrated in other markets and GuestLogix provides an ideal platform to achieve critical mass in a new vertical where card usage is becoming more substantial."

GuestLogix will offer two POS handhelds with contactless support. Both devices include advanced very compact and light readers (less than 100 grams) that support all layers of the ISO 14443 Type A & B communications scheme. Its latest PCI PED 2.0 compliant OnBoard PowerSellerTM 2 (a.k.a. XPDA-V) with PIN Pad incorporates the antenna and reader behind the touch screen. While its current OnBoard PowerSellerTM (a.k.a. XPDA-S) utilizes a new hardware add-on reader using an existing communications port. Airlines will be able to easily upgrade their existing onboard GuestLogix POS devices with a simple plug-in procedure. The Company also said it expects its PowerSeller device to be PCI PED 2.0 certified in early 2010.

The new handheld POS devices with contactless support work seamlessly and securely with the GuestLogix onboard transaction platform which can support transaction clearing on a store and forward or on a real-time basis where air to ground communications is available.
