Guests of This Downtown Charleston Restaurant Are Sipping Into Summer

Renaissance Charleston Historic District Hotel Throws a Classic Charleston Block Party to Welcome a Season of Discovery

CHARLESTON, SC--(Marketwired - Jul 14, 2014) - Renaissance Hotels worldwide challenge their guests with one mission -- Live Life to Discover. On June 26th, Renaissance hotels across the globe hosted their own unique events to put their mission to the test. The events at each of their 157 international properties showcased food, drinks, music, art, and culture that set their destination apart from the next, allowing guests and locals to truly experience what makes that city special. Last month, Renaissance Charleston Historic District Hotel celebrated its Global Day of Discovery with their "Sip into Summer" Block Party.

Wentworth Grill, the downtown Charleston, SC restaurant housed in the Renaissance Charleston, played host to the 3rd Annual Day of Discovery. The restaurant put its traditional American fare, and low-country traditions aside for a menu that truly paid tribute to the prevailing foodie-ism in modern day Charleston. Food trucks from all over the city contributed their finest locally crafted fare -- from specialty desserts to wood-fire pizza and a more eccentric Vietnamese fusion BBQ were all there. With such a diversity of flavors from such a variety of vendors, no other restaurants in downtown Charleston offered such an authentic taste of the Charleston food scene.

This Charleston boutique hotel has a keen eye for life's finer details, as evidenced by their elegantly appointed interiors. So, when it came time for their restaurant to host the Renaissance Global Day of Discovery, they wanted their drinks to be as meticulously prepared as their accommodations. The Renaissance Charleston Historic District Hotel invited local micro-distillery The Striped Pig to handle the mixology for their summer Block Party. Specializing in nuanced, handcrafted rums, "moonshine" whiskeys, and smooth vodkas, The Striped Pig is truly a local gem.

Using heirloom grains and fruits that are locally grown, sourced, and hand-selected from 4th generation Myer's Farm in Bowman, SC, their slow distillation process pays homage to Southern traditions. The distillery poured some of their signature cocktails like the Striped Havana using their complex rum, the Striped and Bloody featuring their vodka, and the Striped Splash highlighting their specialty moonshine. All while the local band, The Bluestone Ramblers, filled the space with lively music.

The city of Charleston's heritage was honored by this summer kick-off event. And of all Charleston boutique hotels, Renaissance Charleston Historic District was proud to welcome those denizens most in touch with the heartbeat of their great city and to give them the stage to share with the world what makes Charleston exceptional.
