Gutenberg Receives Mercury Award for Thought Leadership Campaign

Agency Lauded by Judging Panel for Outstanding Effort in Shaping Public Debate

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - March 14, 2011) - Gutenberg Communications, a global, strategic communications firm offering public and investor relations services, today announced that it has received a Mercury Award for outstanding media relations, which was awarded for a PR campaign executed on behalf of a high-profile client in its Legal industry practice. Gutenberg received a Bronze Mercury Award in the Publicity: Business Press category for its coordinated thought leadership campaign to exposing fundamental problems in the retirement industry resulting from the economic downturn.

Judging for the International Mercury Awards represented the most illustrious, creative professionals in the public relations industry. Twenty-six distinguished public relations, marketing, and advertising agencies, as well as corporate communications departments and public affairs offices participated in the judging involving over 100 professionals. Some of the elements considered in the judging process were: how effectively the material met the state objectives; how well the material was communicated to the designated audience; use of imaginative and original solutions; and the overall expression of the message. Awards were presented to the top 30% of over 750 entries received from 21 countries.

Gutenberg worked closely with its client to mount an aggressive media campaign in the U.S. to bring public awareness to how recent policies resulting from the economic downturn and recovery will affect their financial well being both now and upon retirement.

Gutenberg Communications developed an aggressive nationwide strategy that positioned their client in the media as a retirement and executive compensation expert, both by driving conversations surrounding significant topics and upcoming policies, but also piggy-backing on industry news, surveys and legislation, such as finalized regulations from the Department of Labor that would force plan providers to disclose the fees charges against 401(k) plans and the newly released defining standard for the term "fiduciary," The Dodd-Frank Act and more, just to name a few.

"We are honored to receive this international award which is a testament to the team of talented PR professionals that we have concentrated within this company and the great clients that we have the privilege to work with on a daily basis," said Hugh Burnham, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Gutenberg Communications. "This thought leadership campaign demonstrates what can be done when PR professionals are in sync with their clients and are active participants in public discourse."
