GWGuardian Dramatically Reduces Image Spam and Shields Corporate Messaging Systems From Unnecessary Overload

GWGuardian 4.35 Catches 98% of Image Spam Before It Reaches Inboxes

MONTREAL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 23, 2006 -- Messaging Architects, a premier Novell partner and provider of enterprise-class email security and enhancement software for the Novell GroupWise market, announced today that its leading GWGuardian core technology has been updated with new filtering capabilities to put a stop to the annoying, persistent, and system-clogging image spam, used to hawk penny stocks and remedies, before it reaches organizations' corporate email systems.

Image serializing is an increasingly common network nuisance that is difficult to contain because filters cannot interpret messages embedded in images. Recently, spammers have been exploiting spam zombies, infected PCs of unsuspecting users, to send out millions of images that are slightly modified each time. With the problem expected to grow even worse, the Messaging Architects "spam busters" have added a new layer to the GWGuardian anti-spam engine that blocks image spam immediately. GWGuardian's adaptive multi-layer technology manages inbound and outbound email traffic and offers protection from spam, fraud, phishing, viruses, out-of-policy communications and other threats, as well as encryption of data to meet regulatory requirements.

"As a fire-and-forget solution that protects large government, healthcare, educational and enterprise organizations, we had to ensure GWGuardian's engine was able to handle image spam and guarantee clients' collaboration systems would be available to them, no matter what," said Michael Mastine, Product Manager at Messaging Architects. "While image serializing has managed to circumvent a lot of anti-spam products, GWGuardian 4.35 is able to identify and trap over 98% of image spam, at the same time allowing legitimate images to get through."

GWGuardian 4.35, the latest version of Messaging Architects' advanced messaging firewall, is available as software and appliance and works with all standard email servers, including Novell GroupWise, Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes. For more information, visit
