Habitat and Enersource Welcome Deserving Mississauga Family to New Home

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 4, 2009) - There's no place like home. Today, a deserving local family will get to experience the meaning behind those words with the completion of Habitat for Humanity Mississauga's first home.

After months of hard work by numerous volunteers, elected officials, corporate partners and members of the local community, officials from Habitat for Humanity Mississauga and the project's lead corporate sponsor Enersource Corporation, will officially hand over the keys to the 'green' home today.

"Today is an exciting day," said Doug Clark, President and Board Chair for Habitat Mississauga who has been involved with the project since 2005. "Countless hours of hard work and dedication have gone into this project. To see such a hard-working family have a home to call their own makes it all worthwhile."

The Britannia Road West and Earl Street building site has been under construction since June 2009. Habitat for Humanity's Construction Committee and architect Michael Pettes developed a home design that would meet the needs of the community's first partner family.

In addition to being the lead corporate sponsor on the project, Enersource worked with the Habitat team to ensure the home was equipped with energy efficient components such as high efficiency light fixtures both inside and outside, compact fluorescent bulbs and a geothermal heating and cooling system. Enersource employees volunteered during three corporate build days and did their part to make sure the home could serve as a model for future "green homes" across Ontario.

"Enersource is thrilled to have been a part of this project, from start to finish," said Craig Fleming, President and CEO of Enersource Corporation. "This home is a great example of Enersource's ongoing commitment to our local Spirit of Giving program and it also provides the family with reliable, efficient green energy solutions."

Habitat for Humanity Mississauga also collaborated with green initiative marketing group Summerhill throughout the project. Through the 'Green Paper Clip Challenge', Summerhill was able to help "top things off" through a trade which saw the home receive free crane roof-lifting services from High Reach Inc.

Habitat builds simple, decent houses and partners with families and individuals in need within the local community. With the help of volunteers, materials and investment, Habitat houses are sold to families at no profit and financed with affordable zero-interest loans.
