LONG BEACH, CA--(Marketwired - April 20, 2015) - Long Beach-based financial advisory firm, Halbert Hargrove, has announced the appointment of industry veteran, Randall Lert to co-chief investment officer. In his new role, Lert will be responsible for ongoing analysis of the firm's asset allocations and investment offerings. He will also focus on developing and mentoring the firm's investment professionals.

Lert's experience touches all areas of the industry, including asset allocation, application of quantitative methods to financial modeling and portfolio management, investment strategy development, investment technology systems, global regulatory schemes, and corporate governance. Previously, he served as global chief investment officer and as chief portfolio strategist of Russell Investments, a global investment consulting and asset management firm that has worked alongside Halbert Hargrove for 26 years.

Lert was responsible for all aspects of Russell Investments' functions including manager research, portfolio management and research and development. It was at Russell Investments where he developed the first large-scale implementation of a multiple-manager investing platform in the investment management industry. Earlier, Lert was co-founder of Parametric Portfolios, an asset management firm focusing on quantitative investment strategies, and was responsible for their portfolio management function.

"Halbert Hargrove is a stronger company today because Randy is part of it," said chairman and chief executive officer of Halbert Hargrove, Russ Hill. "Randy and I have worked together for more than 25 years and his experience and values are a perfect match with what we do here. Randy is the model of what a true fiduciary should look like, and for that we're proud to call him a part of our team."

A native Californian, Lert received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history with minors in economics and statistics from the University of California, Riverside. For his graduate degree he attended the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, with a focus on applied economics and finance. Lert then went on to work for Wells Fargo Investment Advisors, at that time a state-of-the-art investment management firm, where he worked closely with Bill Sharpe, the 1990 winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics.

"After working with Russ for more than two decades, I came to respect the integrity, focus on client results, and interest in developing his firm's associates all while instilling a culture of camaraderie at Halbert Hargrove," said Lert. "I am interested in improving the quality of investment services that are provided to the investing public and believe strongly in putting client interests first, which is exactly why I am thrilled to be a part of the Halbert Hargrove team."
