Halcyon Software Launches Systems Operations Suite 3.0 Software for IBM i

Offers Comprehensive Real-Time Automation of Systems Assurance, Security Audits and Alerting for the IBM i

PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwire - November 3, 2009) - Halcyon Software, specialist developer of multi-platform automated operations software, today announced the release of Systems Operations Suite 3.0, the latest version of its real-time systems assurance, security auditing and alerting software for the IBM i platform. In addition to handling IBM i messages, job queues, output queues and devices for issues or threshold breaches, this new software release allows for the monitoring of key business applications, supports flexible scheduling and the proactive monitoring and automatic management of system events, FTP activity and the security audit journal. Outsourcers, corporate data centers and end-users will now feel more confident that their IBM i is running at its full potential and system uptime is maximized.

John Dominic, Channel Manager, Halcyon Software, said, "The Systems Operations Suite empowers system administrators to never be caught off guard should a server, job, subsystem, critical line, device or other resource become unavailable as the software automates system assurance. It alerts administrators to problems, automates the correction process and outlines what it has done, eliminating repetitions of the same issues, avoiding late night support calls and significantly reducing manual tasks and troubleshooting without the need for additional staff. Users can also avoid unplanned outages by removing points of failure and scheduling essential system backups and housekeeping tasks, to reflect their business processes and escalation policies, in a completely unattended environment."

This major new release is based on feedback from the Halcyon's User Group to ensure the Systems Operations Suite continues to address specific and common operational challenges and the need for organizations to do more with less resources. For example, the specialist monitoring of business applications facilitates improved process visibility, greater operational efficiencies and responsiveness. Automatic monitoring, using specialist templates, allow critical business applications such as Movex (Lawson M3), SAP, JD Edwards, Misys, Infor as well as High Availability solutions to be effectively managed and controlled. The Systems Operations Suite's new framework enables further integration into other Halcyon specialist tools so that monitoring of any web-based business applications can now be achieved.

The Systems Operations Suite also offers proactive monitoring of the IBM audit journal (QAUDJRN) for security-related events. Users can monitor for and see at a glance system value and configuration changes, authority failures, periods of inactivity, invalid sign-on attempts, specific commands as well as user profiles that become disabled or are enabled.

The QSECOFR user profile is the most powerful profile on the system and is extremely important to control access. By using "rules" system administrators can create and maintain a secure system. For example, system administrators can ensure QSECOFR is not left signed on and inactive for a defined period of time, be alerted to its usage and monitor what it is being used for.

With the Systems Operations Suite, the real-time system and message log monitoring helps manage FTP requests as well as the security audit journal, the system history log (QHST) and all other IBM i message queues. By actively monitoring these system logs, system administrators can see at a glance who executed an FTP transaction, modified a system value, or the number of objects that were not saved in the most recent backup. A logged event produces a message, allowing users to define an action or number of actions including audible alert, SMS, email, advanced graphical console, or run a command, to handle the message. This helps protect organizations from actual or attempted security breaches and allows users to demonstrate real-time monitoring and security alerting to internal and external auditors.

To combat downtime and ensure continuous operation of critical IT systems, the Systems Operations Suite introduces intelligent templates. These pre-defined templates significantly enhance productivity and facilitate ease of monitoring for virtually any component, job, subsystem or device on your system by automating key repetitive tasks and assigning "message rules" to execute an action or procedure. For example, system administrators can monitor system or interactive response times and status, subsystems being inactive at certain times, performance alerting if customizable system thresholds are met, memory and CPU activity both overall and on an individual job basis, disk space utilization (ASP%), cache battery as well as capped and uncapped processors. Additionally, system administrators can install the software and test the configuration and updates without affecting their live environment. These features combined with remote installation means that software can be deployed and configured within minutes.

"Providing high quality Managed Support services for our IBM iSeries customers is critical to NSPI," said Timothy Roe, Director Sales & Marketing, NSPI. "Our iSeries consultants can leverage the new features and flexibility of System Operations Suite to obtain a single graphical view of all systems within our data centers as well as remote systems at customer locations."
