Halloween 2010: Woolworth's Reveals Britain's Spookiest Halloween Family

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Oct. 11, 2010) -

They live in a cemetery, own two black cats, their 10 year old carves houses out of pumpkins, they party amongst the gravestones from dusk to dawn on all hallows eve, they pretty much celebrate Halloween every day of the year, and have even considered painting their living room orange and black.

The UK equivalent of the Addams Family, the Leahys from Plymouth have been revealed as Britain's scariest family following a nationwide spooktacular hunt on Facebook by online retailer Woolworths.co.uk.

The family, beat off competition from rival Addam's Family wannabes to take the title, including The Reynolds family from Scarborough whose 6'3" dad, David, is a dead ringer for Frankenstein and the Barbers from Norfolk who add spaghetti to their sweets and treats so that it feels like eyeballs.

Mother of three, Claire Leahy says: "Halloween is the ultimate family day. It's is all about dressing up and trick-or-treating with our ghostly neighbours at the cemetery. We spend the evening flying our broomsticks and playing games before settling down to watch our favourite film, The Addams Family!"

Halloween 2010 is predicted to be the busiest ever with British consumers expected to spend over £250 million on gruesome goodies including Halloween fancy dress (compared to £12 million in 2001), the family, who not only live in a cemetery but also see cobwebs as a welcome addition to their home, has been retained by Woolies to assist the company's Head of Halloween in creating a hit list of Halloween 'must-haves.'

The Leahy's, will be selecting and reviewing their favourite picks from Woolies' trick n' treat treasure chest in a bid to help the rest of the UK get into the all Hallows Eve spirit. They will also be receiving the ultimate Halloween home monster makeover, where the Woollies team will be adding an extra spooktacular feel to their already eerie location.

Gareth Jones, Retail Director comments: "Halloween is an increasingly popular occasion and a chance for families to get together to have some spooky fun. We want to provide our customers with the best Halloween costumes, party wear and toys, and our scary family will help make sure we do!"
