LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - Oct 17, 2011) - Acclaimed animal authors Monica Holloway and Barbara Abercrombie will partner with Maxwell Dog, a unique LA dog boutique, for a book signing, book reading and a Halloween dog costume contest, Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 1:00-3:30 p.m. at Maxwell Dog, located at 12336 Ventura Blvd. in Studio City, in a charity event benefitting the nonprofit Best Friends.
Holloway, author of Cowboy and Wills, will share the story of the golden retriever puppy that changed her disabled son's life. Abercrombie will read an excerpt from her book Cherished: 21 Writers on Animals they have Loved and Lost.
The event will offer a Halloween dog costume contest judged by Holloway's son, Wills, and a friend, both on the autism spectrum. Complimentary refreshments will be available for both people and dogs.
A portion of the proceeds from all book sales of the afternoon will benefit the charity Best Friends, a nonprofit building no-kill programs and offering the largest no-kill sanctuary for homeless companion animals in the US.
"I am thrilled to be partnering with Maxwell Dog on this fun, charitable event," says Holloway. "I am excited to share an excerpt from my book on my family's deep connection with our puppy, Cowboy, and her relationship with our autistic son, Wills."
