Hamilton Home Starts Trend Higher

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 9, 2011) - There were over 200 new home starts in the Hamilton Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) in April, according to preliminary starts data released by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) today. Although more than half of the starts in April were of single-detached homes, nearly 100 townhouse and apartment starts in the City of Hamilton brought up the level of starts last month. Starts have been on an upward trend from the beginning of the year when they were well below average.

"Given the consistent uptrend since the beginning of the year, starts began to approach their usual level by April," said Sarah Fong, CMHC's Senior Market Analyst for Hamilton. "More starts of townhouses and apartments last month broadened the selection of new homes available in the Hamilton area," added Fong.
