Hamilton School Hosts Ontario Launch of MADD Canada's Latest Anti-Impaired Driving Program

OAKVILLE, ON--(Marketwired - September 05, 2017) - With a new education program called The Pact, MADD Canada and Provincial Sponsor LCBO head back to school this week to deliver a crucial sober driving message to Ontario students.

Road crashes are the number one cause of death among Canadian youth, and alcohol and/or drugs are involved in more than half of those crashes. Every year, MADD Canada produces a new School Assembly Program to educate students in Grades 7 - 12 about the dangers and consequences of driving while drunk or high.

In The Pact, a group of friends is devastated by an impaired driving crash. Vowing to build something positive from the tragedy, they make a pact to never drive impaired. That fictional storyline is followed by interviews with real-life victims and survivors of impaired driving who talk about how their lives have been forever changed.

MADD Canada and the LCBO are delivering the show to Ontario schools throughout the school year to urge students to make their own pacts now, rather than after a tragedy strikes, to keep themselves and their friends safe from impaired driving.

The show's provincial tour officially kicks off on Thursday with a presentation to approximately 1,000 students at Sherwood Secondary School.

Media are welcome to attend the screening and speak with special guests, students and staff.

Date:
Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 10 a.m.

Location:
Sherwood Secondary School, 25 High Street, Hamilton, ON L8T 3Z4

Guests:
Patricia Hynes-Coates, MADD Canada National President
Michael O'Reilly, LCBO Director, Western Region

Thanks to the generous support of customers and staff, the LCBO fully sponsors about 1,600 presentations at Ontario schools, enabling MADD Canada to bring the sober driving message to more than half a million Ontario students in Grades 7 - 12 at absolutely no cost to the schools.
