Hansen Medical to Highlight New Magellan™ 6Fr Robotic Catheter at 41st Annual VEITHsymposium®

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 17, 2014) - Hansen Medical, Inc. (NASDAQ: HNSN), a global leader in intravascular robotics, today announced it will exhibit its Magellan™ Robotic System at the 41st Annual VEITHsymposium® November 18 - 22 at the New York Hilton-Midtown in New York City. The Company will be conducting product demonstrations of the new Magellan 6Fr Robotic Catheter and exhibiting the Magellan Robotic System to Vascular Surgeons and Interventionalists at its exhibit booth (#416).

In addition, Hansen Medical anticipates that the Magellan Robotic System will also be featured in eight scheduled physician presentations during VEITHsymposium and AIMsymposium™, an accompanying meeting focused on current issues in interventional radiology and endovascular therapy.

The following sessions during VEITHsymposium will include discussion about intravascular robotics:
November 19, Session 32, 3:40 - 4:03pm

  • Experience with Improved Lower Profile Robotic Catheter Techniques - Barry T. Katzen, MD (Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, Miami, FL)
  • How can Robotic Navigation be Combined with 3D Imaging to Make Complex Endovascular Procedures Easier, Quicker and More Predictable with Complex Anatomy - Alan Lumsden, MD (Houston Methodist Hospital, Houston, TX)
  • How can Robotic Assistance and Guidance be Helpful with Complex Anatomy for CAS and F/B EVAR? - Nicholas Cheshire, MD, Celia Riga, MD (St. Mary's Hospital, Imperial College London, London, UK)
  • What does the ROVER Registry Tell Us About Advantages of Robotic Catheter Based Procedures? - Jean Bismuth, MD (Houston Methodist Hospital, Houston, TX)

November 20, Session 73A, 1:15pm

  • Introduction to Robotic Catheter Techniques - Barry Katzen, MD (Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, Miami, FL)

November 21, Session 76, 9:05am

  • Will Robotic Assistance with the Magellan Robotic System Help to Navigate the Arch and its Branches for CAS Less Traumatically? - Nicholas Cheshire, MD, Celia Riga, MD (St. Mary's Hospital, Imperial College London, London, UK)

The following sessions during AIMsymposium™ will include discussion about intravascular robotics:
November 18, 12:40pm

  • Robotics for the Skilled Interventionalist - Barry Katzen, MD (Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, Miami, FL)

November 20, 12:40pm

  • Introduction to Robotic Catheter techniques - Barry Katzen, MD (Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, Miami, FL)

"We are excited to highlight the new Magellan 6Fr Robotic Catheter at VEITHsymposium®, which is one of the most significant global vascular conferences," said Cary Vance, Hansen Medical's President and Chief Executive Officer. "The 6Fr catheter helps to expand the clinical applications for Magellan, so that physicians and patients may benefit from robotic precision and control in additional peripheral vascular procedures performed in smaller blood vessels."

About the Magellan™ Robotic System
Hansen Medical's Magellan Robotic System is intended to be used to facilitate navigation in the peripheral vasculature and subsequently provide a conduit for manual placement of therapeutic devices. The Magellan Robotic System is designed to deliver predictability, control and catheter stability to endovascular procedures. Since its commercial introduction in the U.S. and Europe, the Magellan Robotic System has demonstrated its clinical versatility in many cases in a broad variety of peripheral vascular procedure types in centers across the U.S. and Europe. The Magellan Robotic System offers several important features including:

  • Provides predictability, control and catheter stability as a physician navigates a patient's peripheral vasculature and then provides a conduit for manual treatment of vascular disease with standard therapeutic devices.
  • Is designed to enable more predictable procedure times and increased case throughput potentially allowing hospitals to improve utilization within their vascular business line
  • Employs an open architecture designed to allow for the subsequent use of many therapeutic devices on the market today.
  • Is designed to potentially reduce physician radiation exposure and fatigue by allowing the physician to navigate procedures while seated comfortably at a remote workstation away from the radiation field and without wearing heavy lead as required in conventional endovascular procedures.
  • The Magellan 9Fr Robotic Catheter allows for independent, robotic control of the distal tip of two telescoping catheters (an outer Guide and an inner Leader catheter), as well as robotic manipulation of standard guidewires.
  • The Magellan 6Fr Robotic Catheter allows for independent robotic control of two separate bend sites on a single catheter, as well as robotic manipulation of standard guidewires. This smaller catheter design may be preferred by certain physicians who prefer a smaller diameter vessel access site, or in procedures in smaller vessels.
