Hardcore Gamers Intrigued by Gaming Potential of iPad

This IDC study compares hardcore crossover portable gamers and enthusiast/casual crossover portable gamers based on the results of an early 2012 survey fielded in the United States. Hardcore crossover portable gamers are defined here as those who play console or PC games an average of 15+ hours/week, have spent money on new games in the past three months, and play games on a portable device (i.e., a Nintendo or Sony-dedicated handheld, a media tablet, or a portable media player such as the iPod touch). By contrasting the results of the hardcore crossover portable gamers with those of enthusiast/casual crossover portable gamers (who play an average of 1-15 hours/week on PCs or consoles and play portable games), some interesting dynamics regarding the potential of cross-platform gaming are illuminated.
