Hardee's Customers in VA and NC Raise $114,596 in Stars for Heroes Campaign to Support Military Families

RICHMOND, VA and RALEIGH, NC--(Marketwired - Aug 3, 2016) - Local Hardee's® restaurants throughout Virginia and North Carolina raised $114,596 to support military families and veterans with the recent Stars for Heroes™ campaign. During the month-long campaign that ended recently, Hardee's customers donated $1 for non-profit support organizations and received a commemorative, patriotic Star cut-out. Those guests also received a Hardee's coupon sheet valued at $10 in savings on the purchase of menu items and the Star was placed on the wall of the local restaurant.

Half of the proceeds from this year's Stars for Heroes fundraiser at the Hardee's locations operated by franchisee Boddie-Noell Enterprises (most of which are in North Carolina and Virginia) go to The Patriot Foundation which is based in North Carolina. The other half of proceeds go to organizations supported nationally by Hardee's: USA Cares, Stand Up and Play Foundation and the Gary Sinise Foundation.

"This was a very good year for the Star fundraising campaign and we appreciate the worthwhile support our Hardee's customers in Virginia and North Carolina made with their purchase of these Stars," said Jerry Allsbrook, chief marketing officer for Boddie-Noell. "We all know how many military installations and families of current and former military are in these two states, and it's wonderful to see our customers support these families as they work to secure a positive future after serving our country."

This year's campaign was one of the strongest in recent years and Allsbrook noted that 81 of the company's participating restaurants in Virginia and North Carolina each displayed 500 or more individual Stars purchased by customers.

The Top 3 restaurant locations with the most Stars sold were the Hardee's of Celebration Station at 3342 Virginia Beach Blvd., in Virginia Beach, the Hardee's of Gloucester at 2398 George Washington Memorial Hwy. in Hayes, VA, and the Hardee's of Coeburn at Hwy. 58 in Coeburn, VA.

The Patriot Foundation began in 2003 to provide college scholarship assistance initially to children of Army Special Operations soldiers. Since then, the Patriot Foundation has broadened its reach, donating more than $4 million through this year and providing some 1,400 college scholarships as well as child care for spouses who need to go back to school. Patriot Foundation now benefits all major units at Fort Bragg, including the 82nd Airborne Division, XVIII Airborne Corps and the Join Special Operations Command. Additionally, Patriot Foundation now supports the major organizations at Fort Campbell, Ky.

"We're very grateful for the collaboration again with Hardee's and Boddie-Noell," said Chuck Deleot, president and board chair of The Patriot Foundation. "They've been supportive of the military and veteran community over the years and we appreciate the generosity of their customers."
