Harper Government Continues to Support Job Creation and Innovation in the Canadian Aerospace Industry

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Nov. 18, 2014) - Public Works and Government Services Canada

The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, spoke today at the 2014 Canadian Aerospace Summit, in Ottawa, where she highlighted the Harper Government's efforts to support job creation, economic growth and innovation in the Canadian aerospace industry.

Minister Finley updated representatives, from leading aerospace and defence companies, on the government's progress in implementing the Defence Procurement Strategy, the most significant shift in defence procurement in the last 30 years. The Minister also reiterated the Harper Government's commitment to working with industry to ensure that its purchases of defence equipment benefit all Canadians, by encouraging research and development, innovation, job creation and economic growth.

  • The Defence Procurement Strategy has three important objectives: ensuring our men and women in uniform get the equipment they need at the right price for taxpayers; streamlining defence procurement processes; and leveraging the purchase of defence equipment to create domestic jobs and growth.

  • The interim board of the Defence Analytics Institute is making progress, and has submitted its first report to Ministers to review.

  • The Harper Government plans to release the Value Proposition Guide in the coming weeks. This Guide sets out an approach for leveraging economic benefits from future defence procurements.
