Harper Government Helping to Create World-Leading Defence and Security Sector


OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 31, 2012) - Today the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Industry, attended CANSEC 2012, where he underlined the Harper Government's efforts to position Canada as a world leader in the defence and security sector.

"The Canadian defence sector plays a key role in driving our economic growth, creating jobs and contributing to our long-term prosperity," said Minister Paradis. "Our government is ensuring it continues to succeed by maximizing its access to international business opportunities and facilitating the commercialization of innovative Canadian technology."

During his speech, Minister Paradis discussed the Harper Government's focus on job creation and economic growth. He highlighted the role of defence procurement in supporting prosperity in this industry by generating significant, sustainable and high-value business opportunities for Canadian companies.

"Through the Industrial and Regional Benefits Policy, the Strategic Aerospace and Defence Initiative and the Joint Strike Fighter Memorandum of Understanding, we are positioning Canadian companies to succeed," the Minister added.

Organized by the Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries, a not-for-profit association that represents over 800 Canadian defence and security companies, CANSEC is an annual two-day event featuring exhibits by Canada's leading defence and security companies.
