LONDON, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Nov. 13, 2014) - Public Works and Government Services Canada

Today, at the 2014 Best Defence Conference in London, Ontario, the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Regional Minister for Southwestern Ontario, delivered a keynote address that highlighted the government's efforts to support job creation and economic growth by improving defence procurement.

During her address, Minister Finley pointed to the significant progress the government is making on implementing the Defence Procurement Strategy and talked about the Build In Canada Innovation Program, which now includes a military component.

The Minister underlined that the Harper Government is committed to working with industry to provide the men and women in uniform the equipment they need to do their jobs, while ensuring the best deal for Canadian taxpayers.

Quick Facts

  • The Harper Government's Defence Procurement Strategy (DPS) is the most significant shift in federal government's purchasing of equipment for our men and women in uniform in 30 years.

  • The DPS has three important objectives: ensuring our men and women in uniform get the equipment they need at the right price for taxpayers; streamlining defence procurement processes; and leveraging the purchase of defence equipment to create domestic jobs and growth.

  • The BCIP was launched in 2010 as a pilot program to connect Canadian companies with federal departments and agencies that have a need for innovative products and services.

  • EAP 2012 made the program permanent and added a military component.

  • As of September 2014, 156 innovations have been pre-qualified and 77 contracts have been awarded under the BCIP.

  • Currently, 11 pre-qualified innovations are in the process of being matched under the BCIP military component.
