SURREY, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Feb. 21, 2013) - Today, Nina Grewal, Member of Parliament for Fleetwood-Port Kells, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding that has been provided for upgrades to the Newton Wave Pool under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"I am proud to see the City of Surrey benefit from our Government's support for local infrastructure," said MP Grewal. "This investment will help create jobs and growth, while supporting healthy and active living in our community."
The Harper Government's investment of $177,950 will enhance the services provided by the Newton Wave Pool. This funding will be used to replace the current pool filters with a safer and healthier regenerative filter system.
"The Newton Wave Pool is an important community recreation centre and we're pleased to partner with the federal government to carry out important safety upgrades on the facility," says Mayor Dianne Watts. "The City is contributing $177,950 to the project."
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
