Harper Government Supports Canadian Company in Quebec City, Que.

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - March 18, 2015) - Public Works and Government Services Canada

The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, is pleased to announce that Public Works and Government Services Canada has awarded a contract to the National Optics Institute of Quebec City, Quebec under the Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP) for their ultra-high resolution compact surveillance camera.

This cutting-edge surveillance camera allows the user to distinguish small features from a distance that would otherwise appear blurry at distances of a kilometre or more. The level of detail improves the accuracy of the intelligence gathered. The camera will be tested by the Department of National Defence. The value of this contract is $294,541.94.

The BCIP helps Canadian businesses get their cutting-edge goods and services from the lab to the marketplace. Successful sales translate into jobs, and jobs lead to prosperity for hard-working Canadians and their families. This program is just one of the many ways the Government of Canada supports small and medium businesses across Canada.

Quick Facts

  • The BCIP was created in 2012 to help kick-start businesses and move their cutting-edge products and services from the lab to the marketplace.
  • Products can be eligible for contracts up to $500,000 under the program's standard component, and up to $1 million under the military component.
  • As of March 12, 98 contracts have been awarded under the BCIP, bringing Canadian companies one step closer to selling to domestic and international markets.
