Harper Government Supports Canadian Entrepreneurial Business in Guelph

Supporting innovation in Guelph

GUELPH, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Nov. 29, 2013) - The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister responsible for South Western Ontario, was pleased to announce today that the Government of Canada has awarded a contract to Guelph company MANTECH Inc. for its innovation called the PeCOD® Multi™ through the Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP).

"Our Government's top priority is the economy and we understand that helping Canadian businesses expand and succeed directly benefits Canadian workers and families by creating jobs, economic growth and long-term prosperity," said Minister Finley. "This contract is great news for MANTECH and for Guelph."

MANTECH Inc. is a well-known leader in clean water technologies. The PeCOD® Multi™ is an automated laboratory instrument that analyzes industrial waste water for a number of factors, all from the same sample-something that has not been possible until the development of this instrument. Specifically, it analyzes chemical oxidation demand, conductivity and alkalinity and generates multi-parameter results within minutes. The analysis enables organizations to be compliant with government regulations; the process also eliminates hazardous expensive waste and uses safe green chemistries. The value of the contract awarded to MANTECH Inc. is $200,197.

The BCIP was launched in 2010 as a pilot program to connect Canadian companies with federal departments and agencies that have a need for innovative products and services. By selling to the federal government, businesses can demonstrate the value of their products and services, and potentially generate future sales to non-government customers in Canada and around the world.

To build on the early success of this pilot program, Economic Action Plan 2012 allocated additional funding for three years, starting in 2013. As of 2016, $40 million will be permanently dedicated to the BCIP annually.
