Harper Government Supports Innovation in the Development of Clean Technology

SURREY, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - April 16, 2015) - Western Economic Diversification Canada

Today, the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced $2 million in funding to support the Foresight Cleantech Accelerator Centre in establishing and operating a clean technology development facility, called the Advanced Resource Clean Technology Innovation Centre, or ARCTIC.

ARCTIC will help identify solutions to the challenges faced by western-based resource industries, by creating an initiative that supports clean technology innovators in B.C. and Alberta in bringing new technologies from test bench to market.

Quick Facts

  • The clean technology sector encompasses a wide array of services that directly or indirectly help to protect the ecosystem and biodiversity; reduce the use of energy, materials and water; and reduce or avoid waste and pollution, including greenhouse gas emissions.
  • In 2013, Canada was the second-fastest growing clean energy market in the G20.

Quotes

"By bringing these new ideas to market we are helping to improve energy efficiency and reduce costs while creating jobs and new economic opportunities. Facilities such as ARCTIC build on our natural strength in the resource sector."

  • The Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification

We are grateful for the support of Western Economic Diversification who embraces Foresight's vision to turn emerging sustainable technologies into products and jobs for Canada. The ARCTIC funding will accelerate the adoption and prevalence of Canadian innovations that enable greater efficiency and productivity within our domestic resource sector and capitalize on their growth internationally."
