Harper Government Supports Western Canadian Presence at Agritechnica 2015

EMERALD PARK, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwired - Feb. 9, 2015) - Western Economic Diversification Canada

Western Canadian companies will be able to increase their profile in the European market thanks to a $670,000 investment announced today by Tom Lukiwski, Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Member of Parliament for Regina-Lumsden-Lake Centre, on behalf of the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.

This investment will allow the Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership (STEP) to organize pavilions showcasing Western Canada's agricultural capabilities - including world-class equipment manufacturing, services, and technologies - at Agritechnica 2015, taking place in Hanover, Germany in November 2015.

Agritechnica is the world's largest bi-annual trade fair for agricultural machinery and equipment. In 2013, 2900 exhibitors from 47 countries attracted 450,000 visitors from all over the world. Canadian participation in the 2013 exhibition led to approximately $72 million in immediate sales and an additional $50 million in contracts.

Quick Facts

  • STEP leads Saskatchewan's export industry and assists provincial businesses in realizing global marketing opportunities.
  • Agritechnica is a key opportunity for western Canadian companies seeking to enter the European market for the first time.
  • It is estimated that Western Canada's presence at Agritechnica 2015 will result in a potential $50-100 million in sales over the next two years.

Quotes

"Increasing Western Canada's presence in the global marketplace is a priority for our Government. Thanks to our Government's support, western Canadian companies will be able to promote their products and services to a broader market and create new trading opportunities. By helping Canadian companies expand internationally, we are creating new jobs and economic growth."

  • Tom Lukiwski, Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Member of Parliament for Regina-Lumsden-Lake Centre

"The Government's support for STEP will provide manufacturers with valuable access to new international opportunities while creating jobs and economic growth throughout Saskatchewan and Western Canada. Agritechnica is the largest international trade fair for agricultural machinery and equipment and I am very happy that the Government's support will help to ensure Saskatchewan's world class agricultural sector will be well represented."

  • The Honourable Andrew Scheer, Member of Parliament for Regina Qu'Appelle

"As the world's largest trade fair for agricultural machinery and equipment, Agritechnica has established itself as the premiere international business platform for STEP members involved in the agricultural machinery and equipment supply chain. Our organization has successfully participated in this bi-annual event since 2007, expanding the STEP member footprint on each occasion. In 2015, STEP expects to work with 25 Saskatchewan manufacturers as they seek an expansion of their sales and customer base internationally. Without the funding assistance provided by Western Economic Diversification Canada, this sophisticated showcase of world-class Saskatchewan companies would not be possible."

  • Chad Fleck, President & CEO, Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership
