Canada's organization of front line nurses will hold the business segment its 12th Biennial Convention in Regina, this Sunday and Monday, June 5th and June 6th. The convention will host over 500 delegate-nurses and feature addresses by two of the US's foremost experts on health care policy: former editors the New England Journal of Medicine and educators at Harvard Medical School Arnold S Relman, MD, and Marcia Angell, MD. The Nurses' Convention also features speeches by one of the most progressive health ministers in Canada, Saskatchewan's Health Minister John Nilson. Also in the nurses' corner will be recent Olympic boxing judge Regina Mayor Pat Fiacco.

CFNU President Linda Silas, RN, will also address the 500 delegates. The dean of Canada's nurse-leaders, she heads the largest the nurses' organization in the country, with over 125,000 members.

"Last summer, we put Pharmacare on the national agenda," said Silas. "This summer we will be on the cusp of the greatest wave of nurse retirements Canada has seen. Every government leader from coast to coast promises to cut waiting times. No one can do it without cutting the nursing shortage. At convention we'll consider what every nurse's union in this country will do this summer to get governments to act for patients and nurses," said Silas.
