Hawaii Ophthalmology Patient Reflects on Her KAMRA Corneal Inlay Surgery

HONOLULU, HI--(Marketwired - Oct 13, 2015) - The KAMRA™ corneal inlay is a revolutionary advancement in presbyopia treatment, says Honolulu ophthalmologist Dr. Alan R. Faulkner. Keala was suffering from presbyopia and had noticed it worsening over the past year. She became increasingly frustrated with difficulty reading, as well as seeing at greater distances. Despite her dislike for anything coming in contact with her eyes, Keala notes feeling "surprisingly and thankfully calm during the procedure." Although she was nervous about how the surgery would feel, she reports the entire process as being painless and only feeling some pressure on her eye when the laser was engaged. Keala says she did not experience pain or burning following the procedure, either, which she found relieving. The following day, she experienced mild irritation, as well as some redness -- both of which she explains were minimal. During her follow-up visit, she was excited to notice an improvement in near and far vision already. "It was a great experience for me. I'm looking forward to when my eye is stable and to seeing many more years without reading glasses."

Dr. Faulkner earned his Medical Degree from Tulane Medical School in New Orleans, Louisiana, and stayed at the university to complete an internship in Internal Medicine, a residency in Ophthalmology, and a Fellowship in Ocular Oncology, Oculoplastics, and Orbital Disease.
