ELIZABETH, NJ--(Marketwired - Feb 6, 2014) - At Hayward® Pool Products' recent global sales meeting in Itasca, Ill., a team-building exercise turned into a dream-building reality for 30 children. At the conclusion of the four-day event, Hayward's global sales team presented the WeGo Together for Kids organization with 30 bicycles that were actually built by Hayward's team of sales, marketing and tech service personnel from eight different countries.
Vice President of Hayward Sales Mike Massa said, "Team building always plays an important role in our sales meetings. But this may have been the first time where the exercise resulted in so much pure joy." He explained that as part of the team building activity, his team competed to "win" bicycle parts. These parts were then used to build 30 new bikes to be judged by their peers. Unbeknownst to the participants, though, the bikes were being built to be given to a group of children from the WeGo Together for Kids organization.
The surprise didn't end there. "It was a great moment when the unsuspecting children walked into the room and were told that the bikes that were just built were theirs to keep. I don't know who had bigger smiles on their faces, the kids or the Hayward team," Massa said. "We even had some tears of joy from many in the room. It was definitely a feel good moment for everybody."
Hayward has a long history of supporting community related causes benefiting children, including the "Safe Swimming Initiative" that assisted public swimming pools to comply with the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Safety Act.
