The National Capital Region is hosting the Haywood NorAm Eastern Canadians (www.cecski.ca) on Friday, February 1 through to Sunday, February 3rd at the Nakkertok Nordic Centre in Cantley, Quebec.

The Haywood NorAm Eastern Canadians is an International Ski Federation (FIS) sanctioned event. It is part of the Haywood NorAm Series, Québec Cup, Ontario Cup, and National Capital District Series and is an Ontario University Athletics Qualifier.

The competition enables elite and developing skiers (seniors and junior men/women) from Canada and guest skiers from the United States to compete head-to-head. Over 600 male and female athletes, from Midgets (12-13 yrs) to 50+, will be competing in freestyle (skating) and classic events from 1.6 km to 30 km. There will be a total of $4,700 in cash prizes awarded to top skiers.

The NorAm series has promoted and raised the profile of cross-country skiing in North America. It has also been a vital proving ground for Canadians who have moved on to represent Canada at future World Cup and Senior, Jr. and U23 World Championship competitions (see: Top women X-country skiers at Easterns).

The championship is jointly organized by clubs in the Ottawa-Gatineau cross-country ski community, namely Chelsea Nordiq, Nakkertok Nordic, Club Skinouk, Kanata Nordic, XCOttawa with support from the Carleton University cross-country ski team. The clubs will provide more than 200 volunteers to welcome and support the athletes, coaches and spectators.
