Hazel Crest School District 152.5 Initiates Student Achievement Project With Evans Newton Incorporated

HAZEL, IL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- August 2, 2005 -- Hazel Crest School District 152.5 has launched a special initiative aimed at increasing student achievement at the district's two elementary schools and one junior high school. The project, funded in part by federal education funds through the IL DOE, will focus on improved performance in Reading and Language Arts in grades one through eight. Evans Newton Incorporated (ENI), an educational consulting and publishing group with over thirty years of experience in improving student achievement, will assist Hazel Crest on this project.

"Helping students improve their Reading skills is a top priority," says Hazel Crest superintendent Dr. Sheila Harrison-Williams. "Excellent reading skills are essential to success in every aspect of education. This project with Evans Newton will help us sharpen our focus on state standards and use student test data to guide instruction. The net result will be higher proficiency for all our students."

ENI is working with Hazel Crest to apply the TargetTeach® model. Implementation will begin with a thorough review of instructional materials. This will ensure teachers have the most appropriate and deeply aligned materials for instruction of the Illinois state standards. Hazel Crest teachers will also use incremental tests created by ENI throughout the school year to measure student progress. The test results will be shared with teachers and administrators and will help them make student-specific plans for future instruction.

"We are pleased to be working with Hazel Crest School District," says ENI CEO Jamie Piotti. "We are impressed by the enthusiasm and commitment of the superintendent and her staff. All the pieces are in place for increasing student achievement."
