HCL AXON iCREW Solution Enhances Crew Scheduling Capabilities Within the Transportation Industry

JERSEY CITY, NJ--(Marketwire - May 20, 2010) -  HCL AXON, a division of HCL Technologies and a provider of business transformation consulting services through the innovative implementation and support of SAP® applications, meets the demands of complex crew scheduling within the transportation industry with the development of iCREW. iCREW is being currently co-developed with Canadian National Railways (CN) with delivery scheduled in 2011.

iCREW, an add-on solution based on the SAP ERP application, addresses the crew management requirements of organizations that have distributed mobile workforces with complex regulatory and collective agreement work assignment and pay rules. iCREW is tuned to meet the business needs of the transportation industry, with an initial focus on rail. HCL AXON's development team will work with partners in other industries including airlines, aerospace and defense organizations and other transportation and logistics organizations, in order to ensure that their specific requirements can be incorporated into iCREW.

The iCREW solution will allow organizations with large operational workforces to administer, assign, plan and dispatch crews, manage job boards and rotations, manage bulletins, bids and awards, and provide robust rule processing for end-of-shift reporting, claims validation, real-time time-to-gross calculation, and labor distribution. iCREW will integrate with SAP ERP applications, including the SAP ERP Human Capital Management (SAP ERP HCM) and SAP ERP Financials solutions.

iCREW is being developed by the same HCL AXON product development center that delivered iMRO, an industry add-on for SAP ERP resulting from co-development efforts with SAP AG. iMRO delivers significant new functionality for organizations that manage large, complex assets, including aerospace and defense, travel and logistics organizations. Key components of the iMRO solution help extend SAP's functionality in areas such as maintenance scheduling and planning, resource management and engineering change management, while at the same time significantly enhancing the operational user interface. iMRO reduces cost, complexity and risk for large and small airlines, manufacturers and third-party MRO providers by delivering best practices for maintenance engineering, maintenance planning, maintenance operations and business support processes. HCL AXON will fully integrate iCREW with iMRO to allow the management and deployment of engineering crews.

Commenting on iCREW Alan Capes, CN's director of information technology business development & strategic planning said, "CN has already delivered major cost savings and business value through the deployment of SAP across its back-office and asset management functions. Using iCREW to create an integrated crew management solution that leverages CN's investments in its SAP platform should generate additional significant savings and efficiencies in train operations."

When asked about the future of iCREW, Ian Greenhalgh, Executive Vice President of Business Development of HCL AXON said, "iCREW's development over the past year has been focused on meeting the unique needs of CN of complex crew scheduling and asset utilization. Our solution is helping CN to become a leader among its peers, and we are delighted with the progress. We look forward to final delivery in 2011 and our future development of iCREW for other HCL AXON strategic industries."
