Health and Safety Website Tells Employers 'It's Not Too Late to Prepare for Snow'

Companies Urged to Stock Up on Winter Supplies

OXFORD, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Oct. 30, 2012) - It might be November, but it's not too late to prepare for snow, says one health and safety website.

According to www.whatishealthandsafety.co.uk, a complete lack of organisation can be dangerous, but there's still time for businesses to stock up on winter safety tools like ice melt which work very quickly. These products can be bought in bulk online, so there's no need to panic if you are underprepared.

Matt Hornsby, who provides information and advice for the site, said: "As the nights draw in and the leaves fall from the trees, it's a good idea to stock up for winter. Snow can fall at any time during the next few months, so it's worth looking at the wide range of seasonable items available. You don't have to spend a fortune, but selecting the right equipment will help you sail through the dark spell in style."

While road rock salt works best over large areas and ice melt can protect car parks, steps and walkways, company owners have also been advised to take a look at the bigger items on sale such as snow shovels and snow plough. These, say the site, help to clear large areas after a heavy snowfall and are useful tools to have lying around. They can also be used year after year, making them a valuable investment for most companies.

Commenting on the importance of winter supplies, Hornsby said: "From November onwards, it starts to get pretty cold in the UK. That's why we are encouraging employers to update their winter supplies before the weather takes a turn for the worse. The right equipment will help keep all employees and visitors safe and will come in handy during an emergency situation".

As well as buying the right supplies, businesses have also been urged to carry out a risk assessment of their premises. This is a legally-required inspection which helps employers identify anything that could be hazardous to health and should be carried out with care. Once that's done, company owners will be able to make adequate repairs to their workspace before winter hits and can buy the right equipment for their company.

The advice from whatishealthandsafety.co.uk follows that of the Health and Safety Executive, which provides information about how to carry out a risk assessment. This is important information for all employers and should be taken seriously.
