Health Canada Takes Action on BPA

Bilt stainless steel water bottles a safe alternative

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - April 18, 2008) - Among mounting consumer concerns, Health Canada announced today the government is taking action to protect the health of Canadians and the environment from bisphenol A (BPA). According to Health Canada's release, Canada is the first country in the world to complete a risk assessment of bisphenol A in consultation with industry and other stakeholders, and to initiate a 60-day public comment period on whether to ban the importation, sale and advertising of polycarbonate baby bottles which contain BPA.

Bilt Designs, an environmentally conscious Canadian company, introduced a full line of BPA-free stainless steel water bottles in May 2007, and has since been striving to keep up with the growing demand.

"More and more consumers are becoming health conscious and aware of the products they buy," said Jon Davis, Bilt's founder. "We believe in offering first-rate products that are made with safe and environmentally progressive materials. Bilt stainless steel water bottles are a popular alternative to polycarbonate products because they are lead and BPA-free. They're also affordable for price-conscious consumers."

Bilt water bottles are made from premium Korean stainless steel and are independently tested to meet the US Food and Drug Administration, California Proposition 65 and European Norm standards. The company's full product line includes vacuum bottles and double-walled mugs for hot liquids, and single-walled water bottles for cold liquids.

BPA is used to make many hard plastic toys, bottles and food containers, and is thought to mimic the hormone estrogen. Recent independent studies have linked the chemical to breast and prostate cancer, obesity, early puberty, infertility and insulin-resistance in rodents.

Bilt water bottles are currently available at Mountain Equipment Co-op and London Drugs, and will be available soon at Coast Mountain Sports and other leading retailers across Canada. The bottles retail from $9.95 to $14.00, depending on the model purchased. For more information about Bilt and its products, visit www.bilt.ca.
