Health Strategy and Innovation Group Expands Vangent's Healthcare Technology Offerings

Vangent Adds Principal Medical Officer and Promotes Miller to Vice President

ARLINGTON, VA--(Marketwire - May 20, 2010) -  Vangent, Inc., a leading global provider of information management and strategic business process services, today announced it is establishing a new Health Strategy and Innovation Group. This new team of experts will help customers transform their clinical and public health practices by meeting the challenges associated with health information exchange and the meaningful use of electronic health records.

"At this historic juncture in U.S. healthcare, we need innovative and visionary experts who can help our clients leverage incentives associated with the HITECH Act, fulfill the President's vision of universal and interoperable electronic health records, and much more," stated Mac Curtis, President and CEO of Vangent. "We see enormous potential in helping federal and state agencies, large healthcare providers, health plans and others make the transition to evidence-based medicine that achieves real improvements in the quality and cost-effectiveness of care through innovative applications of healthcare information technology."

This new team will be led by Craig Miller, who was recently promoted to Vice President and leader of the new Health Strategy and Innovation Group, part of Vangent's Health Solutions Division. Mr. Miller also serves as a Strategic Advisor for the Federal Health Architecture and is a leader in defining the architecture for the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN). He previously served as Chief Architect for FHA CONNECT, an open source solution for exchanging health information. He has led the development of national use cases for electronic health records for emergency responders, as well as a common data transport architecture for health information exchange. Mr. Miller is a member of the Federal Biosurveillance Working Group, and he is also a member of the Board of Stewards of Open Health Tools. Mr. Miller co-authored (with Bernie Thuman) the Vangent white paper "Meaningful Use, not Meaningless Waste".

Vangent recently hired Dr. Geeta Nayyar in the position of Principal Medical Officer, reporting to Mr. Miller within the Health Strategy and Innovation Group. Dr. Nayyar will apply her expertise in clinical medicine, health policy, medical communications and public health to her new role of directing innovative health information management and technology solutions. Dr. Nayyar provides particular expertise in helping clinicians adopt and utilize information technology in ways that improve rather than detract from patient-provider encounters.

In addition to her role at Vangent, Dr. Nayyar continues to teach and practice medicine in her position as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Department of Rheumatology at the George Washington University.

She is also an accomplished author and speaker on topics regarding medical care, health care reform and health policy. She has appeared on ABC, has been quoted by The Washington Post, and is an expert panel provider for the Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research.

Prior to joining Vangent, Dr. Nayyar held the position of Chief Medical Officer, North America, for APCO Worldwide Inc., where she was responsible for providing strategic counsel concerning alliance development and health care issue management and advised organizations on health policy issues in the private and nonprofit sectors.

To round out the Health Strategy and Innovation Group, Vangent is hiring additional experts in public health analytics, informatics and clinical measures.

Dr. Nayyar's Academic Background
Dr. Nayyar is board-certified in Internal Medicine and holds a Doctor of Medicine from the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami, where she attended the Honors Program in Medicine, a six-year accelerated medical B.S./M.D. program. She completed her Internal Medicine residency and Rheumatology fellowship at George Washington University. She will complete a Masters of Business Administration degree from George Washington University in 2010.

Dr. Nayyar is an active member of the American College of Rheumatology, the American College of Physicians and the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin.
