Attorney Expands Firm's Healthcare Regulatory Capabilities on the East Coast

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - June 09, 2016) - Michael W. Paddock has joined Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP as a partner in the Corporate practice group and as a member of the firm's Healthcare Team, based in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. Paddock joins from Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP.

For more than 15 years, Paddock has represented health care providers throughout the United States involving fraud and abuse matters, particularly those relating to civil False Claims Act, physician self-referral (Stark Law) and anti-kickback issues. His clients include hospitals, health systems, physician group practices, durable medical equipment suppliers, medical device companies and their trade associations. Paddock advises clients with respect to compliance and transactional matters, internal investigations, and responding to and defending against government anti-fraud and abuse enforcement efforts and regulatory inquiries, such as qui tam and government allegations of False Claims Act violations.

"We're thrilled to welcome Mike to Sheppard Mullin," said Guy N. Halgren, Chairman of the firm. "Health care providers continue to face increased regulatory scrutiny and risk, and his expertise will help us continue to meet the increasing client demand in this rapidly changing landscape."

"Mike joins Sheppard Mullin as part of our ongoing strategy to expand our healthcare regulatory capabilities. He brings essential skills and knowledge that will greatly benefit our clients on the East Coast and firm wide," added Eric. A. Klein, who leads Sheppard Mullin's Healthcare practice.

Paddock commented, "I have been particularly impressed with the firm's focus and proven ability to grow the Healthcare practice. I've met extremely talented attorneys in diverse practice specialties, which will enable me to provide the best possible service to my clients. I look forward to working collaboratively with my new colleagues to create practical solutions for our clients."

Paddock received a LL.M. in Health Law from Loyola University Chicago's Institute for Health Law, a J.D. with Honors from Boston University School of Law, and an undergraduate degree from Miami University of Ohio. In 2006, Paddock was named an Outstanding Young Health Care Lawyer by Nightingale's Health Care News.
