Heathrow, London Hotel Gathers Green Champion Hotels Together

HEATHROW, LONDON--(Marketwired - Sep 11, 2014) -  The London Heathrow Marriott hotel hosted the annual Green Champions Meeting for the Marriott UKI South Region again this year in one of its modern conference rooms. Eager representatives from 18 Marriott hotels attended the popular event which for the first time awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze accreditations for the greenest hotels in the region.

The agenda was packed and included key speakers, case studies as well as lots of best practices. Many signature projects were discussed and the meeting was full of ideas and examples of successful developments at each hotel.

Also attending were 4 key guest speakers including Edwin Duijvekam - Director of Energy & Engineering Marriott Europe, who gave an update on Marriott's energy saving initiatives. Kiwi Power, a commercial partner of National Grid, presented on effective ways to reduce energy consumption. Hatco spoke about their energy smart grill and their innovative equipment that improve efficiency and reliability in the food industry. Eco-Eye presented their smart metering equipment designed to monitor real time electricity use and help reduce energy consumption while saving money.

The interactive meeting also gave the hotels a chance to present their nominations for the 'Greenest Hotel UKI South Region'. The awards ceremony for which was held during the well-earned afternoon break up on to the Heathrow Marriott's roof top garden where a windmill and greenhouse have been built. Out of the 6 shortlisted entries the Heathrow Airport hotel, the London Heathrow Marriott Hotel, came first to win Gold, County Hall Marriott won Silver and Portsmouth Marriott got third place with Bronze.
