Heidelberg Printing Company Deploys Infoblox Appliances for DNS/DHCP

Sees Tenfold Reduction in Administrative Overhead and Costs

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - March 2, 2009) - Infoblox Inc., a global leader in appliance-based platforms for core network services -- including domain name resolution (DNS), IP address assignment (DHCP) and IP address management (IPAM) -- today announced that the Heidelberg Printing Company, the world's leading solution provider for the print media industry, has deployed Infoblox appliances for highly secure, reliable and manageable delivery of external DNS and internal DHCP services.

Heidelberg has more than 20,000 employees around the globe who rely on the Heidelberg network to access the Internet and interact with customers. In turn, more than 300,000 customers in 183 countries depend on the Heidelberg web site, for purchasing, project tracking and customer support. Reliable and secure DNS services are critical to maintaining the Heidelberg network and web site availability. Further, reliable IP address assignment is essential for employee network access.

Prior to selecting Infoblox, Heidelberg relied on a "home-grown," LINUX-based system for external DNS; complexity of the system forced reliance on special experts to maintain it and changes required extraneous administrative overhead.

Howard Hutchings, Vice President of Global Infrastructure, Heidelberg Printing Company, commented, "Relying on a few very specialized experts to maintain our external DNS systems represented too much risk for us; we wanted to eliminate the risk associated with the dependence upon these experts, simplify administration and leverage the innate security of an appliance. Prior to using the Infoblox appliances it was a 20-minute process to change a record. Today, with Infoblox, it is a two-minute process. The administration is so simple, tasks can be delegated to junior administrators and the grid technology allows us to centrally manage the appliances. Since deploying Infoblox, we have seen a tenfold reduction in administration time and significantly increased security of our external DNS systems."

For internal IP address assignment, Heidelberg previously leveraged a general-purpose server and freeware solution that also required expert knowledge to maintain. Additionally, it was unreliable and often required patching.

Hutchings added: "Previously, we had approximately 60 different servers to authenticate and deliver IP addresses to more than 20,000 employees worldwide; the cycles required to maintain these systems were overwhelming. With Infoblox, we moved off all these disparate servers to a consolidated system including several appliances with HA for reliability. High availability of these systems became more pressing as we rolled out a VoIP application including 6,000 handsets and 'dial-tone' reliability for delivering IP addresses to the phones was vital."

The Infoblox appliances are deployed in HA pairs at Heidelberg data centers in the Americas and Europe. And, a single appliance is deployed in Japan to reduce latency. Infoblox's grid technology links the appliances together into a unified, centrally-managed, core network services platform.

Infoblox was the clear solution for Heidelberg. The purpose-built appliances with a hardened operating system and grid technology have helped increase security and reduce management overhead. Above all, they help provide fully redundant access for Heidelberg's customers to the Company's web site. The same devices perform IP address assignment and name resolution for Heidelberg's 20,000 employees, providing consistent network access and Internet connectivity.
