Heinz Donation of $100,000 Worth of Nurture Infant Formula Bolsters Daily Bread's Holiday Drive

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 22, 2008) - H.J. Heinz Company of Canada is lending its support to the Daily Bread Food Bank this holiday season with an important contribution of $100,000 worth of Heinz Nurture Infant Formula. A leader in Infant Nutrition, Heinz announced this unprecedented donation today in honour of its 100th anniversary in Canada.

Daily Bread will receive enough cans of Heinz Nurture Infant Formula Concentrate for 500,000 feedings.

"This generous contribution by Heinz will go a long way in helping needy families with infants, especially during these difficult times when so many are struggling to meet basic needs," said Gail Nyberg, Daily Bread's Executive Director. "It is thanks to the generosity of the public and companies such as Heinz that we can get the food to those who need it and continue our important work in advocacy, research and public education."

"Heinz is proud to support the Daily Bread Food Bank in a measure that will help feed so many small children who are the most vulnerable among those affected by poverty," stated Joan Patterson, Communications & Corporate Affairs Manager, H.J. Heinz Company of Canada. "We hope that other Canadian companies will be inspired to dig deep and lend their financial support to help eliminate hunger at home."

Preliminary statistics show that Daily Bread's member agencies saw a rise of approximately 13% in food bank use this past September due to the economic downturn, lay-offs, and food price hikes. To ensure needs continue to be met, Daily Bread has set a goal to raise 500,000 lbs (226,796 kg) of food and $500,000 by the beginning of January, 2009.
