The Heiserman Group Merges With Streetsense® to Form Leading Edge Retail Strategy Firm

Award-Winning Retail Design Meets Real Estate Industry Leader to Form New Business Powerhouse

BETHESDA, MD--(Marketwire - July 13, 2010) -  After more than three decades of excellence and achievement in the world of retail design, The Heiserman Group has joined streetsense, the 10-year-old design, brokerage and development firm recognized for its unique retail and real estate expertise. Together the two companies now form the most influential, resourceful and active retail and real estate services firm in the nation.

In a recent letter to clients, The Heiserman Group Principal Herb Heiserman described the details behind the merge. "I am personally close with streetsense founders, Marc Ratner and Guy Silverman, and after years of collaborating and working together on projects, we determined that the time was right to bring our two firms together." He added, "We have merged our extensive depth of talent, contacts, insight and leadership to create something truly special." The companies will be recognized under the streetsense name, bolstered by new identity and branding, and will continue to build on its success as a powerful, full-service, retail real estate company that serves clients nationwide. Streetsense provides a wide range of services, including: branding, master planning, architecture, graphic design, brokerage and development.

"Over the past two years, we have all experienced great changes in the world we live in, and the risks that retailers, developers and municipalities are facing are more challenging than ever," said streetsense co-founder, Marc Ratner. "Consumers today are tired of homogenized brands and static retail settings and they are seeking a more meaningful connection, both to the merchant and to the environment around them. As a result, we are seeing a re-emergence of the entrepreneurial retailer. We're also seeing a return to the urban core, where cities are coming to life again in ways we've not experienced in decades."

Streetsense has embraced this shift in the consumer mindset while at the same time is leveraging the unmatched experience, knowledge and talent of the expanded firm to build opportunity across all segments of the retail industry. "The combined experience and synergies that exist between our firms made the decision to merge very easy for everyone involved," added streetsense co-founder, Guy Silverman. "We're already having a tremendous impact in the marketplace and our clients are experiencing the true benefit of our integrated platform. We're a resource far greater than the sum of our parts."

As the firm's client portfolio grows, so do the opportunities to create new urban retail centers where streetsense can apply their unique arsenal of resources and grow their acquisition and development initiatives. The company recently broke ground on a 36,000 square foot specialty shopping center located just minutes outside Washington, DC. Streetsense identified Hyattsville, MD as a growing, eclectic market underserved by quality retail and restaurant offerings and, subsequently, acquired the ground to develop The Shoppes at Arts District Hyattsville. The company's instincts were correct, and the center is 70% pre-leased to tenants including: Busboys & Poets, Yes! Organic Market, Tara Thai and Elevation Burger, among others.

Streetsense unveiled the company's new brand and expanded strategic retail services at the International Conference of Shopping Centers in Las Vegas at the end of May, where the feedback from clients and attendees was overwhelmingly positive. The new attitude and appearance of streetsense helped generate more than a dozen new and existing client meetings, with several new projects and client announcements to be made in the coming weeks. For more information, visit streetsense.com.
