Helio Resource Corp.: Drill Results From the Honib Polymetallic Project Highlight the Potential of a Previously Unexplored Region

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 11, 2006) - Helio Resource Corp. ("Helio" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:HRC) is pleased to report results from the recently completed reconnaissance drilling programme at its 100% owned Honib polymetallic project in northern Namibia.

A total of four widely-spaced diamond drill holes (total of 1,573m) were drilled over the Grensvoet polymetallic anomaly (see Company press release / shareholder update dated May 24, 2006).


- Drilling intersected multiple zones of Zn +/- Cu +/- Pb +/- Ag +/- Au mineralisation over a strike length of 3km+;

- HBD-02 returned 10.2m grading 0.78% Zn (including 3.41m grading 1.44% Zn and 0.14g/t Au) and another zone of 21.75m grading 0.27% Zn;

- HBD-01 returned 21.4m grading 16.4g/t Ag and 0.1% Cu;

- ONLY the polymetallic soil / rock anomalies were drill-tested - these are peripheral to a strong zinc-in-soil anomaly which measures approximately 1.8km x 400m - this target has not yet been drill tested (see map below);

- Helio controls the entire 50km long volcano-sedimentary belt, which has never been explored previously;

- These reconnaissance drill results indicate the chance for discovery within the belt to be high.

The best intercept obtained was 3.41m grading 1.44% Zn, 0.59% Pb, 2.6g/t Ag and 0.14g/t Au in hole HBD-02 from 245.89m depth. A table of significant results and a drill plan is presented below.

Mineralisation is hosted by felsic to intermediate volcanic rocks within a thick volcano-sedimentary sequence of Palaeoproterozoic age. All holes contain base and precious metal concentrations associated with elevated barium, potassium, iron, manganese, phosphorous and magnesium. Primary sulphide mineralisation includes bornite, chalcopyrite, galena and sphalerite. Preliminary technical studies indicate that the mineralisation is likely to be of the Kuroko-style VMS type.

Hole HBD-01 was collared under the main Cu-Pb-Ag soil anomaly on Grensvoet, where surface grab samples had recorded very high base and precious metal values (see Company press release dated May 24, 2006). This hole intercepted two main zones of Cu-Ag mineralisation associated with bornite.

Hole HBD-02 was collared to test a package of rocks over 100m into the footwall, and over 300m south, of HBD-01. This hole intersected a thick package of disseminated Pb-Zn-Ag-Au mineralisation, with a number of higher-grade intervals. Mineralisation is open down-dip and along strike in all directions, especially to the south towards a major zinc-in-soil anomaly.

HBD-03 was collared some 2.6 kilometres to the south of HBD-02 and also intersected multiple zones of Pb +/- Zn +/- Ag mineralisation, open along strike in all directions.

Drilling was planned to test the source of high-grade Cu-Pb-Ag mineralised rock samples occurring within a Zn-Cu-Pb-Ag soil anomaly. Zinc anomalies were not used to target drill holes, since the zinc grades of rock grab samples from the area did not exceed 0.25%.

However, it is now understood that the major Zn-in-soil anomaly measuring 1,800m long by 400m wide located 1,800m south of HBD-02, and untested by drilling, is a highly significant target requiring follow-up work.

Helio now controls more than 50km of strike length of the prospective horizon on the Honib and Tevrede North licences. Stream sediment sampling over the horizon has confirmed the presence of numerous anomalous Cu +/- Zn +/- Pb +/- Au values within the 50km long belt. Palaeoproterozoic volcano-sedimentary sequences host many of the world's major base metal deposits.

Chris MacKenzie, M.Sc., C.Geol., Helio's COO and a Qualified Person as designated by NI 43-101, supervised the sampling and quality assurance / quality control programmes at Honib, and has reviewed the contents of this news release. Selected samples were prepared from core lengths varying between 1 and 3m. Core was halved with a core saw, one half was submitted to laboratory and the other half retained. QA/QC included use of blanks and standards (1 every 20 samples) and duplicates (1 every 32 samples). Samples were assayed at the ALS Chemex Laboratory in Johannesburg, South Africa by gold fire assay and ICP. Check analysis by ICP-MS was conducted at the Acme Laboratories in Vancouver, Canada. Both laboratories applied their own internal QA/QC programme, consisting of insertion of standards and duplicates.
