AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwired - March 20, 2014) - Florida A&M University, located in Tallahassee, Florida and a member of the NCAA Division I-AA Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, unveiled their IAAF 400 meter competition epiQ TRACKS® Z5000. The 63rd FAMU relays, at the Robert "Pete" Griffin Track, kicked off the opening event honoring legendary coach Bobby Lang and Charlotte Griffin, the widow of the complex's namesake.
Hellas recently completed the installation of their IAAF epiQ TRACKS® Z5000, recognized by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). Hellas utilizes the polyurethanes manufactured by Roxie Polymers, it's wholly owned subsidiary, for various components within its proprietary running track systems, synthetic turf systems, and tennis court coatings. From raw materials to installation and after-sale service, Hellas' quality control is highly meticulous. Their new and innovative processes and technology are geared to produce the most performance enhanced running track product available to the athlete in more than two decades. The Z5000 offers uniform cushioning, greater control, energy return and superior performance at higher levels of competition delivering an Olympic-level system with noticeable differences in responsiveness and durability.
FAMU coaches Darlene Moore and Wayne Angel showcased their Rattler striders against 12 opposing teams including powerhouses like LSU, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Virginia. The new state-of-the-art track surface was put to the test and delivered top performances.
"The new epiQ Track Z5000 had great reviews and influence on our FAMU Men's and Women's track team. Our Women's team placed first in 10 events at the meet and the Men's team placed 1st in 7 events. The Lady Rattler Relay team ran their fastest time of their college tenure with a time of 44.72. I believe the new track fosters a refreshing feeling of pride among our athletes and it showed at the 63rd FAMU RELAYS," said Prince Winston, Facilities Assistant | Project Manager Facilities Planning & Construction at Florida A&M University.
"I was very pleased with how quickly the Hellas Construction crew installed their surface and stripping for the track. It was just mind blowing how fast this process was without compromising the quality and standard. The Z5000 is truly the Cadillac of all of Hellas' track surfaces offering," commented Prince Winston, Facilities Assistant | Project Manager Facilities Planning & Construction at Florida A&M University.

To see it return to it's rightful perch among the best track meets in the country took a lot of collaboration. We are pleased that coordination between the university leadership, university plant operations and facilities came together to refurbish and improve this great track complex."
