Suffering from amnesia and a drifter on the run from a crime she barely remembers; Andi ends up in Kingdom, North Dakota. Pursued by locals who are not amused that she liberated a beaten donkey, Andi hides out with a local widower and takes a job at Klavan's, a large local hog farm.

As Andi begins to uncover the terrible truth about Klavan's and the slaughterhouse called Big Sun, two men are on her trail; One, a gunman hired to kill her, another demanding something from her forgotten past.

Grimes combines the gunmans' pursuit of Andi and the account of Big Sun's inhumane animal treatment into a surprise ending that will shock long time fans and new readers alike.
