Henri Giroux acclaimed fourth vice-president of CUPE Ontario

WINDSOR, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 25, 2012) - Henri Giroux, long-time North Bay resident and president of the North Bay Labour Council, was acclaimed today to a third term on the executive board of Ontario's largest union.

At its Convention in Windsor, members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Ontario acclaimed Giroux to the position of Fourth Vice-President. More than 1100 members and staff from across the province are attending the Convention, which wraps up tomorrow.

A resident of Powassan, Giroux is also a member of CUPE's National Executive Board and was President of CUPE Local 146 for 26 years, where he represented long-term care workers in North Bay.

CUPE Ontario is the province's largest union. It represents more than 230,000 workers in five main sectors: health care, school boards, municipalities, social services and universities.
