Hepatitis C Infection Claims Against Santa Rosa Doctor Gain Momentum With Filing of Second Lawsuit

Contaminated Equipment May Have Infected Five Patients of Gordon Medical Associates With Hepatitis C in January 2005

SANTA ROSA, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- June 13, 2005 -- A second case filed on May 27, 2005, in Sonoma County Superior Court by consumer rights law firm Hersh & Hersh against a Santa Rosa doctor reveals that a potentially lethal medical error infected up to five patients with Hepatitis C. All of the infected patients were undergoing treatment at Gordon Medical Associates in Santa Rosa on January 4, 2005, when they came into contact with the contaminated medical equipment while receiving intravenous drug treatment.

In April, Hersh & Hersh filed a lawsuit on behalf of Petaluma resident Cathy Graham who had been treated by Dr. Eric Gordon of Gordon Medical Associates since October 2004.

Hersh & Hersh has now announced the filing of a second complaint against Gordon Medical Associates by another patient, Joe Leach of Sebastapol. Mr. Leach was also treated on January 4, 2005, and learned afterward that he too had been infected with Hepatitis C. Complaint number SCV236813 states that Mr. Leach came in contact with contaminated medical equipment or medicine contaminated earlier in the day.

"It's unconscionable to think that a medical office would risk their patient's health with such sloppy practices resulting in the use of contaminated medical equipment on multiple patients," stated Hersh & Hersh attorney Charles Kelly.

Mr. Leach learned he had contracted Hepatitis C when he sought treatment for abdominal pain from another physician. According to Mr. Leach, Dr. Gordon told him a mistake had been made by his office and he offered to pay all of Mr. Leach's medical bills.

Hepatitis C is a liver disease that affects approximately 4 million Americans, making it more common than HIV infection. Hepatitis C is spread from person to person through exposure to infected blood. Chronic hepatitis C can have serious consequences, including liver cirrhosis, end-stage liver disease, and even liver cancer.

Mr. Leach owns and operates a communications company in Rohnert Park. He services public and private companies throughout California.
