Her Excellency Sharon Johnston Welcomed as Patron of L'Arche Canada

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Nov. 12, 2015) - L'Arche Canada is pleased to announce that Her Excellency Sharon Johnston has agreed to support L'Arche as a Patron while she and her husband, Governor General of Canada David Johnston, continue in office.

Mrs. Johnston has supported L'Arche now for a number of years, not only locally in the Ottawa area, but nationally as well. In November 2014, she hosted a gathering at Rideau Hall during which representatives of L'Arche Canada's four regions (Atlantic, Quebec, Ontario, and Western Canada) met with Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal, who is also a Patron of L'Arche in the U.K.

Mrs. Johnston has agreed to take on the role of Patron of L'Arche Canada at a crucial time for people with intellectual disabilities in this country. A native of Sault Sainte Marie, she completed her studies in physiotherapy and rehabilitation medicine at the University of Toronto and received a B.Sc. degree at the University of Western Ontario, and an M.Sc. degree at McGill University. She also graduated as a Doctor of Philosophy in rehabilitation science at McGill.
