Hertz Advance Responds to Consumer Demands for Bigger Discounts on Early Bookings

Over 60% of European travellers confess to booking holidays early to save money in the credit crunch, reveals Hertz survey

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - May 19, 2009) - Hertz Europe has launched a new advance booking discount, which helps customers save money on pre-paid vehicle rentals booked online at www.hertz.co.uk. With Hertz Advance, customers will save 20% by booking 30 days in advance and up to 10% by booking a minimum of 21 days in advance.

Available across 10 European countries including UK, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Norway and Luxembourg, the new offer will give customers access to great cars at the best available rates. Rentals must include a Saturday night or a minimum of five days. All vehicles are provided with a full tank of fuel which customers pay for on pick-up. Fuel will be charged at or below local pump prices.

The announcement follows a recent survey by Hertz, which revealed that over 60% of European travellers would book their holidays early to save money. The findings also show that in the credit crunch, 58% of travellers are more likely to do their own online research to find the best deals, with more holidaymakers also opting to build their own 'DIY' holiday rather than pay for a package holiday.

But the credit crunch hasn't crushed the European spirit of adventure, over half of those surveyed (57%) said they would choose a destination and then work out a budget to get them there. For 38% of respondents, the most important factor in choosing a destination was visiting somewhere they'd never been before.

Across the board, Europeans opted to cut back on holiday essentials rather than their holiday - the Italians and Swedes were more likely to save money by spending less on new holiday clothes whereas the majority of Brits, French, Dutch, Spaniards and Danes said they would cut back on luxury hotels to save money. Most German travellers (42%) anticipated spending less at their holiday resort to save cash.

Lesley Lindberg, Vice President of Marketing, Hertz Europe, said: "The survey echoed what we're already hearing from our customers - they don't want to give up their holidays, they're looking for ways to afford them. Hertz Advance is our response - now planning in advance will pay off for our customers who love the road."
